Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a true jewel of a park. Often overlooked because of the more popular Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks, Anza-Borrego is generally less crowded and offers much for the intrepid explorer. Indian artifacts and pictographs are present in many areas of the park. Wildflowers put on an amazing display in the spring. It is possible to enjoy enormous solitude in this desert paradise once one leaves the main roads.

Driving
Several paved roads cut across Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, but to reach the best areas, driving on dirt roads (often requiring high clearance and a 4WD vehicle) is necessary. Although maps show many such roads, be aware that in practice some roads may be all but impassable in some areas, depending on the type of vehicle. Hiking is also a great way to see the park, and is necessary to reach some of the attractions or simply immerse oneself to a greater degree in the wilderness.
