Belize (islands and reefs)
The barrier reef off the coast of Belize is the second most extensive coral reef system in the world (behind only the Great Barrier Reef of Australia). Many small islands, or cayes, are present along the reef, and here one finds the only atolls in the Caribbean: Turneffe Island Atoll, Lighthouse Reef Atoll, and Glover's Reef Atoll. World class snorkeling and scuba diving await, although other activities include sea kayaking, windsurfing, beach combing, and just relaxing.

The Cayes
The most popular cayes for travelers are Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve lies between the two, and there are many options for snorkeling or scuba diving. Glass bottom boat rides are also possible. Manatees are present in this area.
