Tobago
Snorkeling and Scuba Diving
Snorkeling can be done from the beaches of almost any bay around the island. Hug the rocky sides of the bays for best visibility. Much of the best scuba diving can be found in and around Speyside and offshore islands. Speyside has long had a reputation for being the place to dive with manta rays. In recent years, however, the mantas have been rare. Check with the local dive masters before planning a trip specifically to see manta rays. Many other sights await, however, such as one of the world’s largest brain corals.

Buccoo reef, on the opposite side of the main island from Speyside, is in shallower water and is good for snorkeling. A boat is needed, and many glass bottom boats offering snorkeling tours are available. Don’t expect to see much at the “Nylon Pool”; it is just a big shallow sandbar in the middle of Buccoo Bay.
Small Islands
Little Tobago on the eastern end of the main island has trails and is popular with bird watchers. Goat Island is private, and the house on it is said to have been built for Ian Fleming, the James Bond author.
